Tonight my heart feels heavy. Mira came today with the box from the attic, the one I told her about in the secret room Robert built years ago. I always knew this day would come, yet my hands still trembled when I saw it.

She asked about her childhood again today… those small memories that quietly hold a family together. I was grateful for that. And the bluebird! oh, I was so happy she found it. Robert gave me that carving as a promise that no matter how far he traveled, he would always come home to us.

But today also stirred an old fear. A few days ago, Eleanor called me. When I heard her voice, I knew the day I dreaded was getting closer. She is so angry and hurt by my actions. I was only trying to keep Mira safe. My mind is not what it was. I did play that up with Eleanor. She was so mad at me. I can hardly take it.

Tonight I am praying. God, please give me the strength and the wisdom when the time comes. Guard Mira’s heart and help her see the love behind the choices we made.

I visited Mom today. There was such clarity in her eyes, a softness that’s been missing for a while. She smiled when she saw me, and she was so happy when I brought her favorite bread from The Daily Bread Bakery. I carried Charity’s words with me: be present, right here, not live in the what ifs.

We talked, and she started telling stories from when I was little. She laughed so hard about Bill the bluebird — the one I named when I was little. I wish I could remember that one. It felt like sunlight breaking through to see her laugh.

When I asked about what I was like as a baby, she changed. It was a little strange. But her dementia is a little strange. Maybe it was that.

Before I left, she mentioned something I can’t shake .. a secret room in our old house. Could that really be true?

I came back from Grandma Eden's today, still unsure of what I’m doing here… or how to begin again.

Today, I met Mira at the edge of what she believes is the end.
